How do you feel about the state of the St. Louis Public School System? Have you or would you consider moving out of the city in hopes of giving your child/children a better education?

I feel that most public schools are a mess. Superintendent Williams has done a lot of things that I feel will make the public school system better, but there is still a lot of changes to be made. For one, parents need to get more involved. Mandatory volunteering or something for a few hours a year.

My son is going on his 5th year at Mullanphy ILC. I've heard about how bad the public schools are for years, and I do agree somewhat, however, I am shocked at how pleased I've been with Mullanphy. I think the staff makes a school, and Mullanphy has great teachers and a principal that communicate. I would NEVER move out of the city to give my son a better education, I feel that he is being challanged, and is very happy where he is. He is thriving at Mullanphy, and is in the gifted program. His last report card for 3rd grade had 14 subject, including gifted, and he got 9 4's and 5 3's. The subject matter in gifted is challanging for him, and he is doing a lot of work above his grade level. I went to private Lutheran schools K-12, and I feel he is learning more, retaining it, and is also learning diversity, which is very important to me. We have had a few little problems, as with any school, it isn't perfect there, but the staff will work with you. My parents have offered to pay for private school, and I declined it. I feel that he is very fortunate to be attending Mullanphy, and I don't think he could get a better education at a private school.
